European Week of Regions and Cities

Overcoming barriers to the right to stay: How transport connectivity affects the attractiveness of a territory.

Economic attractiveness in regions facing demographic challenges—such as ageing and population decline—depends increasingly on connectivity. Efficient transport networks support local businesses, attract investment and uphold the right to stay, allowing people to pursue viable lives in their home territories. Conversely, weak connectivity hampers talent retention and economic sustainability. This workshop analyses these challenges and explores how European instruments and interregional cooperation can strengthen territorial resilience. The session opens with a Committee of the Regions rapporteur on transport poverty, followed by a Voice of the Territories debate and a focus on EU tools plan.
