- Matija Kovač is an architect, cultural producer, designer, and Mayor of the Municipality of Celje, Slovenia. He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Ljubljana
in 2017 and enhhanced his knowledge at Università Iuav di Venezia.
He is a co-founder of the design collective Zgradbazamisli and Hiša kulture Celje, where he has been active in cultural production since 2009. He was the producer of the musical Veronika Deseniška, which has been performed at Celje Castle since 2016. In 2019, he received the Brumen Design Award.
He entered local politics in 2014 and was elected Mayor of the Municipality of Celje as an independent candidate in 2022. His work focuses on cooperation, community and involving citizens in shaping the future of the city.
