European Week of Regions and Cities
  • Representative, Walloon Public Service
  • Member of the Committee of the Regions
  • Pierre Goffin chairs the ‘Labour Market’ Working Group of the Greater Region Summit (Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Germany). In the face of demographic and digital challenges, the Greater Region is coordinating its efforts to stabilise the labour market. With the support of European funding, it is focusing on joint training programmes, the recognition of qualifications and the transferability of skills. The priorities of the Greater Region’s Labour Market Working Group include: • The implementation of concrete measures to retain and attract skilled labour. • Improving the visibility of support schemes and training. • Strengthening cross-border professional mobility. • Developing future-oriented skills, with a focus on sustainable development and AI. • Linking lifelong learning, employment and the labour market with a view to sustainable development. The Greater Region should be seen as a testing ground whose results can be easily replicated in other cross-border regions of the EU.
