Marcos GONZALEZ ALVAREZ

  • Marcos González Álvarez is Head of Unit (CLIMA.B5) at the Directorate-General for Climate Action of the European Commission, where he leads the implementation of the Social Climate Fund and the EU ETS2. The unit is responsible for the rollout of the new Emissions Trading System for buildings and road transport and for the Social Climate Fund. Before that, he served as Deputy Head of Unit (CLIMA.B4) in charge of the decarbonisation of aviation, maritime and rail sectors and as Head of Sector in (CLIMA.B2) being responsible for the free allocation of emission allowances under the EU ETS. He has also worked in the Directorates-General for Energy and Competition on energy efficiency, renewable energy and state aid cases. Prior to joining the Commission, he worked for the Spanish Energy Agency (IDAE), within the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, and in the private sector. He holds a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Universidad de Oviedo including studies at Arts et Métiers ParisTech, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Economics from UNED.
