Forging Climate-Proof Regions: Lessons from LIFE Landscape Fire

At the CIM Viseu Dão Lafões stand, visitors will discover LIFE Landscape Fire, a finalist at the 2025 LIFE Awards, and a practical answer to a growing European threat: wildfires. As fires become more frequent and intense in Portugal, Spain and other Mediterranean regions, the project shows how prevention starts before disaster strikes, by bringing land back into active care. Through prescribed burning and targeted grazing, it revives traditional practices to reduce vegetation, protect biodiversity and make communities safer. More than a pilot, these methods are still being applied and expanded today, strengthening climate resilience and helping build safer, stronger regions.
