- Ballyhoura Development (BD) is a community-led Local Development Company based in south-west Ireland. Partnership and participation are the guiding principles of the organisation's work and activities, and a bottom-up approach is central to all programme delivery. Established in 1989, BD delivers over 30 regional, national and EU programmes and projects which seek to develop empowered and inclusive communities that inspire and embrace new opportunities, drive positive and sustainable social, environmental and economic change, and reduce inequalities.
Catherine Smyth is Head of the Environmental Unit at Ballyhoura Development, and Project Manager of the AquaCOM project, which aims to empower Energy Communities in North-West Europe to develop aquathermal energy (AQE) projects to support small-scale district heating networks within their own communities. In this session, Catherine will will map out how the project has evolved and will paint an objective picture of the project strategy, its objectives, successes and challenges.
