Dennis de Vries

  • Deputy Mayor, City of Utrecht
  • Portfolio: Youth, Education and Secondary Vocational Education, Community Development and Neighbourhood-Based Work, and Municipal Real Estate. Deputy Mayor de Vries is committed to ensure that all children and young people in Utrecht have equal opportunities, regardless of their background. He advocates for additional support for children and families who need it the most and sees education as key to helping young people discover their talents, build friendships, and develop a sense of belonging. In his eyes schools and education can play an important role in promoting equality. As a former school leader, De Vries strongly believes in the power of education and personal development. Another priority for De Vries is strengthening the position of secondary vocational education (MBO). He believes secondary vocational education students deserve the same recognition and respect as university students and supports equal treatment both in education and student life. Solidarity is also a core value for De Vries, who previously served as Director of the Vreedzaam Utrecht (Peaceful Utrecht Foundation). In a time of increasing social tensions, he believes it is essential for people to support one another and continue engaging in dialogue, even in the face of conflict.
