Connecting scales for climate resilience: Governing adaptation for strong regions

Climate adaptation is still divided across plans, projects and responsibilities. This online Cross-border Dialogue discusses how cities and regions can move from knowledge about climate risks to coordinated action. Organised by Università Iuav di Venezia, a member of the PIONEER European University Alliance, with the University of Huelva and other PIONEER partners, the session will compare experiences from Venice, Huelva and Cologne. Researchers, policy officers, city administrations and elected representatives will examine how planning, infrastructure and community needs can be coordinated across levels of government, placing these local perspectives within the wider European policy landscape. The session supports “Strong regions, strong Europe” by showing that regional resilience depends on cities’ capacity to protect people and services, reduce inequalities and put adaptation strategies into practice. Brief contributions from a gender-balanced panel will lead into a participatory second half. Through guided mapping and live voting, the audience will identify missing links, barriers to action and lessons that can be shared across Europe. These findings will feed into a shared adaptation map, support future cooperation within PIONEER and help cities and regions put climate adaptation into practice.
