  • Mário de Sousa Passos was born in Vila Nova de Famalicão in 1966. He holds a degree in Physics and Chemistry from the University of Minho (1991), where he also completed his PhD in Sciences in 1998 and pursued an academic career as an Assistant Professor. In 2004, he was appointed Regional Delegate for Braga of the Portuguese Youth Institute. He began his career in local government in 2009 as a City Councillor for the Municipality of Vila Nova de Famalicão, overseeing key areas such as Local Parishes, Sports, Housing and Administrative Modernisation. In October 2021, he took office as Mayor of Vila Nova de Famalicão, and his mandate was renewed for the 2025–2029 term. Since November 2025, he has also served as President of the Intermunicipal Council of the Ave Intermunicipal Community (CIM do Ave).
