This session will explore how regions can coexist with brown bears while protecting human safety, rural livelihoods and biodiversity. Drawing on the experience of Harghita County and its Regional Large Carnivore Platform, the event will showcase practical approaches to damage prevention, science-based monitoring, fair compensation and stakeholder cooperation. The discussion will highlight how place-based solutions, multi-level governance and European cooperation can strengthen rural resilience, support territorial cohesion and ensure that biodiversity conservation goes hand in hand with the safety and livelihoods of local communities across Europe.
