Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming European public administration, offering opportunities to improve services, strengthen local administrative capacity and develop data-driven, citizen-centred policies. The EU supports this transition through rules, strategies and investment, promoting innovation, safety, transparency and respect for fundamental rights. As part of its AI initiatives, the IFEL Foundation managed AIPACT, funded under Italy’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan, in partnership with Bocconi University, the University of Milano-Bicocca, the University of Bologna and Maggioli. Completed in the spring, it provided assessment, training and support to around 300 municipalities. Its successor, I-BRIDGE, favourably assessed by the European Commission and co-funded by the EU’s Horizon programme, will shortly become operational. Bridging the two projects, this event draws on AIPACT’s lessons to foster dialogue among European institutions, the national government, researchers and local and regional authorities on AI development in the public sector and the operational challenges facing municipalities and metropolitan cities. Among the others, will take part to the event as speakers n.2 MEPs, 1 EU Representative and 4 cities.
